Moving large files is not a new concept in the business world, and high-speed file acceleration to do just that isn’t new either. But file acceleration has been very much limited to the media and entertainment industries, routinely serving the bulk of that industry’s file transfer workflows because of the massive media files to distribute around the world.

But other industries such as financial services, healthcare, and telecommunications rely on timely delivery of information and can benefit from acceleration and specifically, prioritized managed file transfer (MFT).

  • Financial services  organizations can offer prioritized file transfer to their business partners and customers. Organizations like Tungsten adopted secure file transfer technology to efficiently  deliver millions of files a month  for timely straight-through payment processing, which is unspeakably important with large sums of money on the line. Additionally, imagine having a decade’s worth of financial transactions available for use in big data applications. Open Banking promises a whole new world of service and product offerings solely on its ability to access and process real-time financial services information.
  • Healthcare providers  can’t efficiently send high-resolution MRIs and X-rays to and from research facilities or other institutions for life-saving analysis and feedback. Take Health Network Laboratories, the second-largest medical laboratory network in North America, as an example. Employees had to manage 3,500 scans and over 5,000 file transfers every day, and file sizes up to 300 MB came from across North America. Imagine the impact extended delays have on families seeking critical treatment for their loved ones. Down the road, healthcare organizations see prioritized MFT as a way to faster analyze new medicines and sequencing for game-changing medical treatments.
  • Telecommunications companies  working with outsourced call centers managing customer support and sales can better ensure regulatory compliance, quality assurance, and training using prioritized MFT. Support centers and areas of the business determining the success of new products can run qualitative analysis on 250,000 22-minute phone calls from real customers. And how agile could a telco firm be if such analyses could be done, in combination with prioritized MFT and big data solutions, on a nightly basis?

There’s a growing case for high-speed file acceleration and prioritized MFT across a number of industries as an essential component of traditional file transfer workflows. But with great power comes great responsibility, governance is just as important as speed when it comes to accelerating file transfers.
